  • Been a while

So, it's been a while since I last updated.  Sorry about that.  Last week was rather crazy with just trying to get things done around the house and Christmas cards addressed and wedding stuff taken care of and then I went to Indy on Thursday night for my great uncle's funeral on Friday.  First off, I have to tell you about his funeral.  Great Uncle Earl was a pretty awesome man.  He was my grandma's oldest brother and had cancer and was very sick, so we weren't surprised when he passed.  I went up for the funeral and it was a really good one, if you can say that about funerals.  He and my great aunt were married for 64 years.  I hope and pray that Jake and I get that many years.  What an awesome thing that was to see.  Uncle Earl was also a Sargeant in WWII and served on an island in the Pacific.  At the end of the service, the Indiana Veterans Honor Guard came forward and each man saluted the casket.  Then, they read a special thing, then shot off 3 rounds before playing taps.  After doing the flag ceremony and giving it to my great aunt, they thanked her for supporting her husband as he served our country.  It was definitely amazing to see them respect and honor my great uncle and watch that.

Tons of wedding stuff has been getting done lately, too.  I've bought all the supplies for the unity candle and now just need to decorate it.  All of our Save the Dates are addressed and ready to go out as soon as I get stamps and seal them.  I bought nearly all of the fabric for mom to make the table squares with, did a trial run of a centerpiece and decided to do it, met with a florist in Indy, found ribbon for several projects, and bought our cake server set.  And the most fun part is that I ordered my dress on Saturday!  Yay!  It's gorgeous and that's all I'm saying about it.  I'm just glad to have gotten some things done here recently.

Yesterday, I hung all my Christmas lights outside.  That was a big job.  I had put up the little 3M hooks on Saturday and then took advantage of a 2 hour break in the rain to put up the actual lights yesterday.  Yay!  I love Christmas lights.  Still have to get my tree up, but that's it.  The plan is to get that done tonight, so then my house will be all pretty!  Yay!

    Happy December!

  • hmm, not sure why you couldn't comment on my wedding blog. It should let anyone and everyone comment. Sorry about that.

theknot.com is certainly a fabulous help for me, although they only have one Canadian city listing and that is Toronto, a city that is 3 provinces away (including 2 very large provinces) and approximately 1115 miles from where I am... not useful for getting many listings or connecting with other brides. I'm super pumped it worked out so well for you!

I have been doing quite a few things on my own for the wedding. Mom and I picked up some little vases in my colours on for 50 cents each (originally each $5) at Michaels. We're going to be using them for the centerpieces. And, if we do end up using a church hall for a reception, I love the table squares idea! We've looked into doing the wedding on Friday or Sunday, but it isn't ideal for us, mainly because the wedding location is in a place where both sides of our families will have to travel too, and I don't want them missing work if they don't have too. Also, we have an officiant who does about three services a day on Sundays, making it difficult for him to be overly involved on that day.

I love hearing about all your wedding plans, especially the part about your dress! The dress was the first thing I bought (because there was a huge sale at our bridal boutique the month I got engaged). I understand not being able to share the details about the dress online, but it's hard to suppress the excited little bride inside of me and not beg for more details! :)

    Happy December to you too!

  • All the Christmas lights up at once. Way to be, girl!

  • Like the comment, but have a small correction.  While the story of Beowulf is fiction, the legend was built of the events of a King Beowulf that is buried in Sweden.

  • well for that program you have to be single and under 25....so if a man is married he cannot participate.

  • I brought my camera along for some inside pictures of the gym, but there were a bunch of young boys (like 13 yo) playing basketball at the time. I didn't want to look like a creep! :) Next time I get over there I'll do my best! And as soon as I do, we'll get some ideas! :) I'm thinking maybe little white Christmas lights entwined in tulle somewhere. I'll have to go out bargain shopping after Christmas!

  • Oh yeah, you'll be able to get tons of white lights after Christmas for dirt cheap!  And if you have a Hobby Lobby up there, they have the cheapest tulle...99 cents/yd
